FCC Medio Ambiente received an award at the 15th National Energy Awards given by the Association of Spanish Energy Management Agencies (EnerAgen). The award ceremony took place yesterday, 13th June, in Granada, where Óscar Acosta, head of FCC Medio Ambiente's Andalusia I branch, received the award from Antonio Díaz Sánchez, Granada's deputy for European Funds, Development, Industry and Employment.

The National Energy Awards seek to recognise the best projects and initiatives that, for their innovative approach, their contribution to the objectives of the energy transition and their socio-economic impact, have stood out in the categories of best private initiative, best public initiative, best education, awareness-raising and dissemination initiative and best energy community.

FCC Medio Ambiente was awarded in the Private Initiative for the Energy Transition category for its LIFE Landfill Biofuel project, which develops at the Granada Ecocentral, an environmental compound of approximately 890,500 m2 located in the municipality of Alhendín, and backed by the Granada Provincial Council's Energy Office. This is a project to develop and demonstrate the technical and economic viability of the recovery of biogas generated by anaerobic decomposition in landfill sites for use as vehicle fuel and injection into the gas network. With this biomethane obtained from landfill biogas, used in light and heavy vehicles, over 70,000 kilometres have been travelled throughout the duration of the project and it has been proven that this fuel meets all the standards of the regulations in force.

The project is co-financed by the European LIFE programme and is being developed by a consortium of six entities: FCC Medio Ambiente, leader and coordinator of the project, the University of Granada, Sysadvance, Gasnam (Iberian Association of Natural Gas and Renewable Gas in Mobility), the Cartif Foundation and IVECO, in addition to the collaboration of the Granada Provincial Council.

For FCC Medio Ambiente, which was also recently honoured at the Andalusia Environment Awards of the Andalusia Regional Government for its LIFE4FILM project, this award is another important recognition of the R&D&I work it carries out, always seeking sustainable solutions, care for the environment and the implementation of the circular economy. This work is framed within its 2050 Sustainability Strategy, a 30-year business development roadmap that integrates very demanding objectives and commitments with high-added value for the company and society as a whole, integrated into four lines of action: environmental, social, excellence and good governance. Specifically in this area, the company aims for investment in R&D&I to reach at least 1% of turnover by 2050.
