FCC MEDIO AMBIENTE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE POPULATION AFFECTED BY THE DANA

AMUNT VALÈNCIA!

From the first moment that the tragic consequences of the (DANA in Spanish) were known, FCC Medio Ambiente set to work to channel the solidarity of the cities where it provides services throughout Spain, which has translated into the contribution of volunteer workers, vehicles and machines to collaborate in the sanitation, unblocking and cleaning tasks. The equipment has been made available to the emergency coordination centres that are working in the Valencian Community and is also being administered by company managers responsible for local services..

On Friday 1st November, with the full support and collaboration of the City Council, a first contingent of 19 volunteers and 23 machines set off from the city of Madrid. On Thursday 7th November this first team was relieved by a second group of 20 new volunteers after 6 days of hard and intense work. To date, 191 volunteers and 157 vehicles, machinery and specific equipment have been sent to the affected areas from various provinces and regions of Spain, such as Madrid, Zaragoza, Teruel, Alicante, Tarragona, Barcelona, Murcia, Cuenca, Castilla y León and Extremadura. To date, the efforts of our volunteers have translated into over 10,000 hours of work. As for the typologies of vehicles and machines, they are intended to be effective in these circumstances:

  • 17 waste collection lorries,
  • 49 closed/open box lorries with crane or large container lorries,
  • 13 tankers and scrubber lorries,
  • 10 vacuum-impeller sewerage lorries,
  • 22 mechanical shovels and tractors,
  • 6 hydro-cleaning vans,
  • 19 vans for supervision, workshop and personnel transport,
  • 21 pick-up vehicles  and others.

In addition, the Madrid City Council's cleansing service depots and facilities have been organised as logistical centres to coordinate the huge amount of food and clothing that citizens are bringing in.

FCC Medio Ambiente's Madrid branch also sent a lorry to the area with 29 m3 of basic necessities and tools consisting of 20,500 gloves, 1,000 protective suits, 48,500 masks, 400 pairs of boots, 300 protective goggles, 600 litres of hydroalcoholic gel, as well as shovels, brushes, picks, scrapers and rubbish bags. This material was collected thanks to donations from the Madrid and Castilla y León-Extremadura branches of the company, the Madrid City Council and Geresco S.L. and Lodiser Global S.L.

From FCC Medio Ambiente we would like to express our solidarity and condolences to all the people who are suffering the terrible consequences of the DANA, especially in the Valencian Community, and we will continue working to contribute as much as possible to alleviate the effects of this tragedy.
